THE BEND HOUSE ONE YEAR LATER Behind The Bend
by Eric Stauble·
If you ask us, one of the most important factors in running a successful business is the space that you work in. We are all pretty creatively driven individuals; so working in an environment that fosters creativity and draws inspiration is very important. Our founder Gaurav Nanda started Bend in his live/work loft space in Marina Del Rey, California in 2010. It was an awesome space but as our team grew it became obvious that it would not be Bend’s forever home. So, early last year the hunt was on. Bend was going to get a new bigger place to call home.
In this day and age, there are a number of different options for workspaces. Especially when you are an e-commerce platform like us, you can really get creative and unconventional about where you choose to call home. Knowing this would be a space that we would want to stay in for a while though, we really wanted to make the best choice for us. We looked at everything from land to build another live/work style space on, to traditional storefronts in every part of town you can think of. After searching high and low for quite a few months, on a whim we went to an open house in a neighborhood just west of La Brea in the Hollywood area. The minute we walked in the door, we immediately knew that this would be Bend’s new home.
The Bend House is a Spanish style, California Bungalow. Our thought when choosing a house over a traditional office space was functionality. As a furniture company, there is really no better way to showcase your products than to apply them in a space, so that is exactly what we did. We outfitted the Bend House with a mixture of our furniture and vintage mid-century modern pieces to supplement for the pieces we haven’t made yet. We design our furniture for our lives as much as we do for yours. So as a team we designed this house as our collective dream home. A home that we can use to really show the Bend lifestyle not just the Bend product line.
Now a year later that dream is still very much alive. Our decision to move forward with a house was definitely the right one. Having meetings sitting around a dining room table instead of a conference table truly is the way to go. With a pool in the backyard, it’s the perfect backdrop for Bend Goods.
