Bend Goods in Surface: The Evolution from Wire to Architectural Tube
Bend Goods was recently featured in Surface Magazine for the launch of the Green Park Collection—a milestone that reflects a broader evolution in our studio’s approach to material and form. Read the article here!
While our early work explored the transparency and lightness of wire, the Green Park Collection signals a shift toward architectural presence through thicker tube construction. This progression isn’t about abandoning one material for another—it’s about expanding the dialogue between openness and solidity.

The Concept: Wire allows us to define space through line. Tube introduces volume while preserving clarity.
From Transparency to Structure
For years, Bend’s wire pieces emphasized visual lightness. The goal was to create furniture that shaped environments without dominating them. The Green Park Collection continues this thinking, but through a different structural language.

Using larger-diameter aluminum tube, the collection introduces weight and presence while maintaining openness. The frames feel grounded without appearing heavy, reinforcing a key principle of our design philosophy: Good proportion is not about size; it’s about balance.

The Reverse Cantilever
One of the defining gestures in the Green Park Collection is the reverse cantilever. This structural move allows the form to feel lifted while remaining stable.

This approach reflects a deeper exploration of how furniture occupies space:
-
Lifted Form: The seat is supported independently from the back, creating a sense of suspension.
-
Spatial Engagement: Rather than acting as static objects, these pieces engage their surroundings.
-
Versatility: Designed to support both gathering and movement in high-traffic hospitality and public environments.
Â
Designed for Real Use
The Surface Magazine feature highlights the collection’s suitability for demanding settings. Durability, stack-ability, and outdoor readiness were our central technical considerations.
-
Material: High-quality, powder-coated aluminum for maximum corrosion resistance.
-
Longevity: The structural clarity of tube construction ensures these pieces withstand the elements.
-
Adaptability: These designs respond to the "new normal" of 2026, where residential and hospitality boundaries increasingly overlap.

Beyond Form: Shaping Human Interaction
Being featured in Surface reinforces the idea that modern furniture operates within architectural conversations. It shapes how people gather, move, and interact—whether in a private residence, a café, or a public plaza.

The Green Park Collection marks another step in our ongoing effort to design objects that support environments rather than compete with them. This recognition reflects a material vocabulary that bridges lightness and structure, art and utility.
