The best furniture disappears. The Hinoki Collection was built to do exactly that.
There is a particular quality that the best interior pieces share. They hold the eye without demanding it. They make a room feel more considered without announcing themselves. They work in a minimalist home in Kyoto and a boutique hotel bar in Los Angeles with equal ease. The Hinoki Collection from Bend Goods was designed around that quality — a complete seating system in three heights, built from ash wood, vegan leather, and slender steel, guided by the quiet confidence of Japanese minimalist craft.
Where It Comes From
The Hinoki Collection takes its name from the Japanese cypress — a wood celebrated for its beauty, its warmth, and its remarkable longevity. Hinoki is the material of temple architecture and traditional craftsmanship. It carries a sense of intention that synthetic materials simply cannot replicate.

That same sense of intention runs through every piece in the collection. The ash wood backrest is shaped with a gentle curve that follows the body. The vegan leather seat is soft enough for a long dinner, durable enough for a busy restaurant. The steel legs are deliberately slender — wire-like in their refinement — so each piece reads lighter than it actually is, floating at the table or counter rather than anchoring to the floor.
Nothing is added that does not need to be there. That is the Hinoki philosophy. That is the Dieter Rams principle applied to a chair.
Three Heights. One Design Language.
The Hinoki Collection is a complete seating system — the same design DNA expressed across three heights so a space can be furnished with total consistency from the dining table to the kitchen island to the bar.
The Hinoki Dining ChairThe natural starting point. Pull it up to a dining table at home or specify it for a restaurant dining room. The ash wood backrest and vegan leather seat give it warmth that pure metal chairs cannot match, while the slender steel legs keep it visually light enough to work in even the most minimal of interiors. BIFMA rated for commercial use.
The Hinoki Counter StoolThe counter stool that brings the kitchen together. At counter height, the Hinoki Counter Stool is built for kitchen islands, breakfast bars, café counters, and anywhere a seat needs to pull up and stay. Same ash wood, same vegan leather, same chrome or powder-coated steel frame — just at exactly the right height.

The Hinoki Bar Stool
Ash wood backrest. Vegan leather for cushioned comfort. Chrome steel legs that catch the light without demanding it. The Hinoki Bar Stool is designed to disappear into a space without disappearing from it — equally at home behind a residential bar or in a high-traffic hotel lounge. Simple enough to disappear. Beautiful enough to stay.
Why It Works in Any Space
The Hinoki Collection's strength is its neutrality — not in a generic, forgettable way, but in the way that truly considered design is neutral. It does not compete with a bold interior. It does not overwhelm a quiet one. It simply fits.
At home
The Hinoki Chair belongs at a kitchen table surrounded by natural light, or pulled up to a marble island in a modern kitchen. The ash wood grain — available in Natural, Terracotta, Deep Peacock Blue, and Black — gives each piece a warmth that feels genuinely residential, not specified.
In Hospitality
the Hinoki Bar Stool and Counter Stool have the commercial credentials to back up the aesthetic — BIFMA certified, vegan leather rated for heavy daily use and easy to clean, available in custom colors and COM for contract projects. The kind of stool that a hospitality designer specifies once and does not have to think about again.
In a Café
the Hinoki Dining Chair offers something most commercial seating cannot: real material warmth. Ash wood in a café feels like an intention, not an accident. It tells a guest that someone cared about this space — which is exactly the message an independent café or boutique restaurant wants to send.
The Materials
Every detail in the Hinoki Collection is chosen for a reason.
Ash wood backrest — Available in Natural, Terracotta, Deep Peacock Blue, and Black. Semi-matte painted finish that lets the grain show through, warm and individual.
Vegan leather seat — Soft, durable, and easy to wipe clean. Rated for heavy commercial use. Available in a range of colors to pair with the wood and frame finish.
Steel frame — Available in chrome or custom powder-coat colors. Slender and deliberate, giving each piece its characteristic lightness.
