Our Story: From Automotive Sculpting to Architectural Furniture
Founded in 2010 by Gaurav Nanda, Bend Goods is the realization of a lifelong obsession with the "art of the bend." A sculptor and visual designer by trade, Nanda’s perspective was sharpened as an automotive sculptor at General Motors. It was there he mastered the rigorous discipline of translating fluid, complex lines into rigid, functional structures—a skill set that remains the backbone of our studio today.
At Bend, we apply this automotive-grade precision to the architectural environment. Our work is an intensive study in proportion: the delicate tension between thin and thick, light and heavy, transparency and solid mass. Every piece is an exploration of how a line can occupy space, utilizing shifting scales to create modern gestures that are as expressive as they are structurally sound.
We first redefined the possibilities of metal with the Lucy Chair, a wire-work icon that earned a permanent place in the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) permanent collection. Since then, our pieces have become staples of the global architectural landscape, featured in landmarks such as John Lautner’s Sheats-Goldstein Residence.
Today, that same spirit of innovation drives our evolution. From our signature "visual lightness" in wire to the bold, architectural weight of our Aluminum Tube collections, we continue to push the boundaries of material intelligence and structural form.
