The Curation
Urth Caffé & Bar at LAX is a multi-award-winning destination, recently named "Airport Coffee Shop of the Year" for its commitment to organic, sustainable travel. Nestled within the bustling Terminal 1, the space was designed to be a "vibrant haven" that offers travelers the same quality and comfort as Urth’s iconic street-side locations.
Our products were curated to elevate this high-traffic airport environment. In a setting where thousands of travelers pass through daily, the Copper Lucy Bar Stools serve as a sophisticated, sculptural anchor. The warm copper finish provides a beautiful, "fine art" contrast to the organic wood elements and polished surfaces of the café. Because airport seating is often limited and busy, the airy, open-frame design of the Lucy collection ensures the space feels voluminous and inviting, providing a "cozy retreat" amidst the rush of departures.
The Synergy
The synergy between Bend Goods and Urth Caffé at LAX is rooted in a shared "California spirit" of innovation and eco-friendly excellence. While Urth pioneers the "Traveler’s Blend" of organic coffee, Bend Goods offers a 21st-century "reinvention" of the mid-century wire medium.
Bend was an ideal use case for this project because the "technical rigor" of our wireframes meets the demanding needs of an airport. Our furniture is engineered to be "built like a buffalo" for durability while maintaining a "fluid structural language" that is visually light. The Copper Lucy Bar Stools perfectly align with the "European-inspired" aesthetic of the café, offering a metallic pop that feels both industrial and high-end—proving that "wire, done right," can turn a quick pre-flight coffee into a memorable design experience.
The Legacy
Terminal 1 at LAX underwent a half-billion-dollar redevelopment led by Southwest Airlines and URW Airports, transforming the aging 1980s infrastructure into a world-class destination. The design, spearheaded by AkarStudios, emphasizes natural light and materials that blend warmth with a contemporary feel.
Our chairs have been a part of the Urth Caffé LAX experience since its unveiling in 2018, standing as a testament to the "longevity and style" of our high-quality finishes. By integrating Bend Goods into this "cultural landmark" of global travel, Urth Caffé has created an enduring space that honors the legacy of the mid-century masters while serving the modern traveler.
