The Curation
Tacofino Gastown is a flagship destination that captures the effortless, coastal-cool aesthetic of the Pacific Northwest. Designed by Shiloh Sukkau, the space is a study in texture and light, featuring a palette of soft pastels, natural wood, and custom planter installations.
Our products were curated to fit seamlessly into this high-traffic restaurant environment, where a "light and airy" feel is essential to balance the bustling energy of Vancouver’s historic Gastown. The White Ethel Bar Stools were selected to complement the "vibrant palette" of the space, providing a clean, sculptural seating option that doesn't overwhelm the intricate interior decor. Whether positioned at the busy bar or tucked into the sleek dining counters, the wireframes allow light to pass through, maintaining the open, "voluminous" atmosphere that Tacofino is known for.
The Synergy
The synergy between Bend Goods and the Tacofino project is rooted in a shared "California spirit"—a design language that bridges the gap between casual comfort and high-design ambition. Shiloh Sukkau’s work often explores "fluid structural language," making our wire furniture an ideal use case for this project.
The Ethel Bar Stools, with their "asymmetric triangular patterns," echo the geometric precision found throughout the restaurant's custom millwork. By using CNC-formed wire, we provided a seating solution that is "built to last" in a demanding hospitality setting while offering the "chromatic range" and "machine age beauty" that modern design icons require.
The Legacy
Since its opening, Tacofino Gastown has become a staple of Vancouver’s culinary and design history. The project stands as a testament to the vision of Shiloh Sukkau, a designer who understands how industrial materials can be elevated into fine art.
Our chairs have been a part of the Tacofino experience for years, proving that "wire, done right," offers a lifecycle and durability that standard "cheap outdoor furniture" simply cannot match. By integrating Bend Goods into this iconic space, Tacofino has cemented its place at the intersection of craftsmanship and design ambition.
