The Curation
Golden Road Brewing’s DTLA outpost is nestled within the historic Grand Central Market, an iconic food hall that has been a continuous part of Los Angeles culture since 1917. The design of the brewpub captures the hustle and bustle of the marketplace, blending industrial bones with a vibrant, modern aesthetic.
Our products were curated to function as functional art within this high-traffic, historic setting. The White Lucy Bar Stools were selected to provide an "airy vibe" that contrasts beautifully with the polished concrete floors and the warm, neon-lit atmosphere of the market. In a limited space area where density is high, the open wireframes of the Lucy collection allow for a "voluminous" feel, ensuring the bar area remains open and inviting despite the busy crowds of the financial district.
The Synergy
The synergy between Bend Goods and Golden Road Brewing is a celebration of the "California spirit." Golden Road represents the pinnacle of LA’s craft beer culture, while our furniture represents a 21st-century "reinvention" of the classic wire medium.
Bend was an ideal use case for this project because the Grand Central Market is a space that values "technical rigor" and architectural history. The "asymmetric triangular patterns" of the Lucy Bar Stools echo the geometric precision found in the market’s Beaux-Arts details. Our high-performance powder coating ensures the stools are "built like a buffalo" and ready to withstand the rigors of thousands of visitors a year, while the white finish pops against the vibrant Los Angeles murals that define the stall’s backdrop.
The Legacy
Grand Central Market is a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, once housing the offices of legendary architects like Frank Lloyd Wright. The building itself, the Homer Laughlin Building, was the city’s first steel-reinforced, fireproof structure—a legacy of innovation that mirrors our own "design ambition."
Our bar stools have been a staple of the Golden Road counter since its opening in 2016, proving that "wire, done right," offers a lifecycle and durability that mid-century masters would have admired. By integrating Bend Goods into this "culinary nucleus" of the city, Golden Road has created an enduring destination that honors the past while looking forward to the future of LA design.
