Most design shows ask you to look. LA Chair asks you to sit.
On Saturday, October 3, Bend Goods is bringing two new chairs to LA Chair III, Eric Trine's show during LA Design Week at Main Street Workshop. You won't find them on a plinth. They'll be on the floor, right next to 40+ chairs by designers and makers based in Los Angeles. Same level. Same ground.
That's the whole point.
Why sitting matters
The show has one rule. You must sit. Eric's point is simple: the value of this show is that your body will be there. You get to sit in every chair.
A chair is a tool for a body. A photo tells you what it looks like. Sitting tells you if it works. Is the seat the right height? Does the back catch you where you need it? Does the frame give a little when you lean? You only find out one way.
Eric compares it to chili. Nobody invites you over to look at their chili. You grab a bowl. You grab a spoon. You taste it.
So come taste.
Two new chairs

This is the first time either one leaves the studio. I want to hear what you think after you sit.

A note on hosting
Charles Eames described the designer as a good host, someone who anticipates what guests will need. I think about that a lot. Design is serious work. But underneath the work is a simple question. What will make this good for someone else?
That's the spirit of this show. Our location hosts, Alejandro Artigas of Main Street Workshop, Brendan Sowersby of 100xBTR, and Annabel Inganni of Wolfum, live it. We're going to try to live it too.
So come say hi. Sit down. Stay a while.
